PHOENIX (April 1, 2024) – The Arizona Building & Construction Trades Council announced their endorsement of Yassamin Ansari for the U.S. Congressional seat in District Three, a spot to be vacated by fellow Democrat Ruben Gallego, who is now running for Senate.

“While serving on the Phoenix City Council, Yassamin Ansari has proven to be a true champion of labor,” said Aaron Butler, president of AZBTC. “She was steadfast in her support to pass prevailing wage laws at the city level and to support the recent heat mitigation ordinance. Construction workers in Arizona, both union and nonunion, can rely upon Yassamin to do the right thing when it comes to labor issues.”
Ansari represented District 7 while on Phoenix City Council. As a member of Congress, she would expand her influence over workers’ rights, housing affordability, climate action, and other policies affecting Arizonans.

Ansari earned a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Stanford and a master’s degree from Cambridge, which she immediately used in her role at the United Nations as a climate policy advisor who helped create the Paris Climate Agreement.

Forbes honored her as a ’30 Under 30’ person to watch in law and policy in 2020. She was also recognized in 2021’s Phoenix Business Journal ’40 Under 40’ leadership list.
